Sometimes in life we have regrets about our past. For example, 'I was lazy at school' or 'I chose the wrong career'. When we talk about regrets we can use the following sentence styles:
 
I shouldn't have been so lazy at school.
I should have studied harder at school.
 
I wish I hadn't been so lazy at school.
I wish I had studied harder at school.
